Santa Fe I 2.7V6, 2.0 diesel 2001-2006

Full-time all wheel drive. Developed by Steyr-Daimler-Puch. A viscouse coupling locking planetary differential inside the front transaxle splits the drive torque equally between the front wheels, and 60/40 between the front and rear axles.

Santa Fe I 3.5V6 2002-...

Automatic all wheel drive. The BorgWarner TorqTransfer System ITM-I (interactive torque management I). The system uses electronic sensors and microcomputer controls to sense slippage in a vehicle's front wheels and automatically transfers power to the rear wheels. Then, when the front wheels are no longer slipping, the system reduces or eliminates power to the rear wheels.

The reduced slippage increases efficiencies that enhance vehicle handling and traction and improve fuel economy. The ITM-I can work with other systems such as antilock brake systems and electronic stability programs to further enhance traction and stability.

SantaFe II 2006-..., Tuscon 2004-2009

Automatic all wheel drive. The Borg Warner ITM 3e, an electromagnetic clutch-type system that sends 95% of the power to the front wheels—until they encounter a low traction situation, when up to 50% of the power can be apportioned rearward.

I own a 2005 Hyundai Tucson AWD, 2.7L. How can I disconnect the front of the driveshaft to lower it so that I can replace the gas tank? The bolts on the rear just will not budge!

2005 that has the lights of the 4x4 connection ,traction control and the anti lock brakes are on and the 4wd will not kick in when needed , i could turn the key on and off three times and start up and they would shut off and all would work fine , now it won't no matter how many times I turn the key on and off , i even unhooked the battery over night but it came back on

Does the 2016 Hyundai Tucson SPORT have AWD as default...????

I can't read the manual as the translation is not understandable...Korean translation.???

I drive in a little snow in a city and can drive at regular speed. I also drive in the mountains where there is snow from time to time (Snoqualmie Pass).

Any information you can give me other than referring me to the Korean manual would be helpful.

I have a 2013 santa fe lwb awd......so far, the dealer has had to replace the "coupler" at the rear on the new Magna awd design ......they can't figure out why this keeps happening.....1st replacement was at 9,000 miles, last week there was 21,000 miles on vehicle......
I had the same issue on our 2008 santa fe awd, and got rid of the car because it had stranded us a couple of times due to the malfunctioning awd !
Can you shed any light on this failure for me?

I had a problem with the coupler too and the dealer told me it needed to be replaced for two thousand dollars . I removed the driveshaft instead and now have a front wheel drive vehicle.

The most common reason for failure is incorrect tyre regime by the operator.

You need to follow the required tyre regime or else the coupler will continue to fail on a regular basis. New tyres always to the rear, no more than 3.5mm tread depth difference front to rear and across axles with thicker tread to the rear.
